Our Baby Turns Five

Our Birthday Girl July 2008

Our baby girl is five. It seems only a moment ago we found out she was on the way. We were so excited.

She is everything I imagined a daughter would be and more. She is feminine, yet has spark and spunk. She is compassionate and nurturing. She loves pretty things, and loves creating them. She is a busy little thing, but can stand still if there is a job to do. She loves pretty clothes, playing in makeup, and having her finger and toe nails painted. She is beautiful on the inside and out, and has a laugh that's contagious.

One of her greatest gifts is her desire to serve. We were part of a home school enrichment group where she was in several classes, and she could hardly sit down until she knew all the other students had what they needed. She loves to help. " I want to help" and "I can do it" are words I hear everyday.

She is my little shadow, and is always eager for "GIRL TIME" which means going out somewhere just the two of us. She loves to give me hugs and kisses, and pick flowers just for me.

She loves spending time with her daddy too. He helps see to it along with her brothers that she gets to show her adventurous side. She amazes them with how strong she is, and has already shown herself to be quite the little athlete.

What a blessing to have her in our family. Her colorful personality adds so much to each of our lives, and to those who know her. What a sweet blessing she is!

Cinderella
By Steven Curtis Chapman

She spins and she sways to whatever song plays,/ Without a care in the world./And I'm sittin' here wearin' the weight of the world on my shoulders./It's been a long day and there's still work to do,/She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!/There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited /and I need to practice my dancin'"/ "Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella/While she is here in my arms/'Cause I know something the prince never knew/Oh I will dance with Cinderella/I don't wanna miss even one song, /Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight/ And she'll be gone.
She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed/She wants to know if I approve of the dress/She says "Dad, the prom is just one week away,/And I need to practice my dancin'/"Oh please, daddy, please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella/While she is here in my arms/'Cause I know something the prince never knew/Ohh-oh ohh-oh, I will dance with Cinderella /I don't wanna miss even one song, /Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight/ And she'll be gone.
Well, she came home today with a ring on her hand/Just glowin' and tellin' us all they had planned/She says "Dad, the wedding's still six months away/but I need to practice my dancin'"/"Oh please, daddy please!"
So I will dance with Cinderella/While she is here in my arms/'Cause I know something the prince never knew/Ohh-oh ohh-oh, /I will dance with Cinderella/I don't wanna miss even one song,/ Cuz all too soon the clock will strike midnight /And she'll be gone.

My Daughter and Neice Make the Tennessean Newspaper

My daddy was reading the newspaper this morning, and upon turning the page was greeted by two of his grandaughters smiling at him.
Several weeks back I entered the photo below hoping it would make the cut and it did. Of course with such LOVELY SUBJECTS it's not hard to believe!

Cousins and bestfriends always make room for each other.

There's Coons In Them There Hills!

In my nephew's quest to keep the children entertained he set a trap baited with tuna and toast with strawberry jam at the top of the wooded hill behind my parents house. After a few days he had trapped a racoon to show the kids. They were so excited! After observing the racoon for a while Michael turned him loose. It was funny to see the racoon take off in full trot up the hill.

Making Sweet Memories

Friday my daddy invited me and five of his grandkids on a trip to Elliston Place Soda Shop in
Nashville. He knew better then to take them alone! Elliston is one of the last existing soda shops in Tennessee. Daddy said they had the best chocolate malts around, and he was right. They bring them to the table in big tin cups straight from the blender . We ordered four to share, and still had some left. The cheeseburgers were wonderful, not pre-frozen, but hand patted. What a sweet treat for us all!

Making Music City Memories

H O W D Y I'm jes' so proud to be here, and having soooo much fun!
The past several weeks have been very full. We have been having a lot of fun. My mom's friend Jenny and her two sweet grandchildren came for a visit from Texas. It was so nice getting to spend time with them.

My mom met Jenny while dad was stationed in England with the Air Force. I loved hearing them talk and laugh constantly about their time together over there. Seeing them together reminded me of the special friends in my life, and though we aren't together everyday we seem to pick up just where we left off when we talk or are together.

While they were here we had a ball. We took the kids bowling , my nephew gave ride after ride on his four wheeler, we went for walks in the woods( pulled ticks off) ,had a cookout over at my sisters where the kids explored their trails ( pulled ticks off), swung on their rope swing, went for more rides on the four wheeler, spent the day in Nashville at the Country Music Hall of Fame Museum, ate lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe, enjoyed the gardens at the Opryland Hotel, toured the Grand Ole Opry museum, and attended a show that included JOSH TURNER at the Grand Ole Opry! Whew, it wears me out just telling you about it.
Even though we stayed busy I still managed to capture some moments in time with my camera hope you enjoy!

Josh Turner did a great job.

I think they call this "CHILL" AXING
now days.

Michael made quite a friend.
Like his shirt says Sarcasm isn't his only talent, I think patience would be right up there. He is wonderful with all the kids, and makes sure everyone has fun. Thanks Michael!
